Mexico City Independent Film Fest calls national and foreigners filmmakers to register their works in the competitive sections of the second edition, which will take place from 04 to July 07, 2018.
Fiction Shortfilms
Will be considered mexican or foreigners works, completed in 2017-2019, with a maximum runtime of 30 minutes (including end credits). Films made in any technique could apply, including animation.
Documentary Shortfilms
Will be considered documentaries from national and international filmmakers, with a maximum runtime of 30 minutes (including end credits), completed in 2017-2019. Pieces made in any technique could apply, including animation.
Feature & Medium-length Films
National or international fiction feature and medium-length films, with a runtime of more than 35 minutes, completed in 2017-2019.
Feature & Medium-length Documentaries
National or international documentaries, with a runtime of more than 35 minutes, completed in 2017-2019.
Music videos, commercial works, films in whose production has been involved a major studio, or that have been distributed on DVD or online for free without a password are not allowed.
For the presentation of works, must use the form provided by the festival, the Festhome, or the FilmFreway platform. All options are available at the end of this document. Works will be received from the time of publication of the call for entries and until 23 hours (Mexico-City central time) of 29 May, 2019.
Entries must be submitted in their original language, with subtitles in Spanish or English if needed.
The fee for international productions is 35 USD, payable through Festhome or FilmFreway. The fee for feature films is 40 USD. The indicated discounts will apply until April on Filmfreeway.
80% of the profits earned by the registration fees will be used to award each category in competition. Only one work will be awarded per section.
In addition to the above, additional prizes of sponsors of the festival may be granted.
The Jury will be entitled to award other special mentions that they deemed for each category.
The works to form part of each section will be chosen by a selection committee, whose decision is final.
In case the number of projects registered in any section were not sufficient to award a prize, the category could be declared as deserted, and the fees will be divided equally into all other categories.
Selected works could be part of national and international exhibitions during 2019 and 2020. By participating, the applicant also accepts the use of materials, frames or segments of the piece registered for the dissemination and development of other printed or electronic materials such as invitations, posters, banners, postcards or virtual catalog.
Exhibition formats during the festival could be DCP, Bluray or Digital Copy (Apple ProRes 422 or H.264). Under no circumstances will participants be paid for any rights to exhibit the submitted work.
The list of selected films will be published in the official website of the festival on June 02, 2019.
Registration of works to the Mexico City Independent Film Fest constitutes acceptance of the rules of this call and renunciation of any claim or legal action against the Festival, their representatives or affiliates.
Any matter not specified in this call will be resolved by the organizers.
