Sinopsis:
Como una tarjeta postal, la imagen de las palmeras en la Ciudad de México es el símbolo de un sueño marchito. La muerte de más del 75% de las palmeras de la capital no es circunstancial. El paisajismo urbano fue seducido en todo el mundo por aquel paraíso tropical Californiano, que evocaba sol, libertad y una vida cómoda; importamos una utopía, construyendo apariencias y vendiendo estatus. Las palmeras muertas (Phoenix canariensis) de nuestra ciudad, víctimas de la globalización, nos recuerdan el fracaso de una política de apariencias. Este corto documental explora la relación del hombre con la naturaleza en las grandes ciudades y brinda un espacio que da voz a los árboles que nos rodean que, con su destrucción nos piden, en un último respiro, contar su historia para replantear nuestra existencia y los espacios que habitamos.
Yesenia Novoa Rodríguez (México state, 1991). Graduated from Design and Visual Communication, with a specialty in Audiovisual and Multimedia, at the National School of Plastic Arts (ENAP-UNAM). She studied the Master's Degree in Social Sciences and Humanities at the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM), Cuajimalpa, México City. She has worked as a film and audiovisual teacher in cultural and university spaces, also she is an audiovisual artist and film editor. She has participated as a tutor / workshop leader in various audiovisual training programs, such as the Conformation of the Tabasqueño Educational Film and Audiovisual Heritage (2022), Knowing my Comanja People (2021), among others. In 2020, with the support of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE), he made the short documentary film La Ciudad de la Pericia (2021), which received, in the year of its premiere, the Caesar Design Film Award and the Wannabe Designers Mention of the Ennesimo Film Festival; best documentary short film of the FENACIR festival, as well as the FIC-Autor in the same category. She has participated in various international and national festivals. In 2016 she directed and produced Pomuch-Relatos Peninsulares I which premiered at the IV Festival Cinemística, in Madrid (2017). Currently, with the support of the Trust for the Promotion and Development of Mexican Cinema (Procine), she is finishing the short documentary film "La Sombra de las Palmeras" which will be released in 2024. Magali Rocha Donnadieu (Ciudad de México, 1989). Is a Mexican producer graduated from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in México. She studied literature at the Paris 7 University and specialized in cultural journalism. She took film production courses at the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel, the Fondation Européenne pour les Métiers de l'Image et du Son, as well as at the École d'Animation Les Gobelins (France). She worked at different festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, Cinéma du Réel, and Les écrans documentaires. She has produced several short films with her production company Amate Films, awarded by various international film festivals. In 2020, she premiered her first documentary feature film, “Volverte a Ver” -- a documentary that explores the phenomenon of disappeared in México. In 2021, she directed and produced “Llueve” -- a short film that won several festivals and was presented at the Annecy Festival and at La Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. Her works have been nominated for 5 Ariel awards in México. She is currently developing two animated feature films: "The Origin of the Experience" by Zulu González (La Corriente del Golfo) as well as "El Rastro de tu Sangre en la Nieve (Cine Tornado).
